Terms of use

Last updated August 18, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Cover Redact LLC, and they govern your use of the Cover app and this website. By downloading, buying, or using Cover you agree to them.

Provided as-is

Cover is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.

You review your output before sharing it

Cover is a tool that helps you redact documents. It does the bulk of the work and opens an editor after every run so you can check each page.

Cover will not always find everything. Automatic detection can miss personal information, particularly in unusual layouts, scanned pages, handwriting, and images. You are responsible for reviewing the redacted output before you share it. Confirm that everything you intended to remove is gone. You keep responsibility for the documents you share, and for any information that remains in them.

License

Which agreement covers you depends on where you got Cover. A copy downloaded from this site is licensed to you by Cover Redact LLC under these terms. A copy installed from the Mac App Store is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which Apple publishes at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. For that copy, the paragraphs below describe how Cover works and what each plan covers, and they do not replace Apple's agreement.

You get a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Cover on Macs you own or control. A Personal license covers one named person: it is bought by a natural person for their own use, and it is not purchased or reimbursed by an organization. A Business license bought on this site covers your organization's people, up to the number of seats purchased. Seats are a direct-purchase arrangement: a Business subscription from the Mac App Store is a single subscription tied to the Apple Account that buys it, and Apple's agreement sets who may use that copy. Please don't resell, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the app, or use it to break the law.

The license sold on this site covers attended use, where a person runs the app and reviews the output before sharing it. Asking an Ai assistant on your Mac to redact a file over Cover's MCP connection is attended use: a person asks for each redaction, and the result comes back on that Mac. Unattended operation, including headless, server-side, and watched-folder use, is reserved for a separately licensed automated tier, which is not sold through the Mac App Store.

A trial license runs for 7 days, starting with your first redaction rather than with your first launch. Opening the app, taking the tour, and looking around do not start it. During the trial every feature is available and every PDF you save carries a watermark. Personal and Business licenses both run for one year at a time. A license that lapses never bricks the app: you keep Cover and the engine version you have, and both keep working. Renewing continues updates.

Payments, renewals, and refunds

Purchases made on this site are handled by Stripe, which is the merchant of record. Purchases made through the Mac App Store are handled by Apple.

If you buy on this site and Cover is not right for you, write to us within 14 days of your purchase and we refund it. The 7-day trial is there so you can evaluate Cover on your own documents before paying, and the refund window covers the case where you bought without trying it first.

Refunds for Mac App Store purchases are handled by Apple, under Apple's policy, and are requested through Apple rather than through us.

A license bought on this site renews once a year, and the renewal charge is automatic. You can cancel at any point before a renewal. Cancelling stops the next charge, and the license you already paid for runs to the end of its term.

A subscription bought through the Mac App Store renews through Apple. You cancel it in your Apple Account subscription settings, or from Settings ▸ License in Cover, which opens Apple's own sheet. Apple's terms govern that renewal.

To cancel a renewal, start one again, or change the card on file, open Cover and go to Settings ▸ License (open it for me). The help page walks through each of those.

No warranty

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Cover is provided without warranty. We do not warrant that it will catch every piece of PII, that it will be error-free, or that it will be available without interruption.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Cover, including any information that was shared because it was not removed. Your use of the app is at your own discretion and risk, and you are responsible for verifying your redacted documents.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to Cover will not exceed the greater of fifty US dollars ($50) or the amount you paid us for Cover in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so parts of the two paragraphs above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Feedback

If you send us feedback, ideas, or suggestions, we may use them to improve Cover without restriction or obligation to you. We appreciate them all the same.

Changes to these terms

These terms carry a "last updated" date. The version published on this page is the one in force, and it applies to your use of Cover.
