The short version: Cover redacts your PDFs entirely on your Mac. There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no crash reporting inside the app, and your documents are never uploaded anywhere. This page spells out exactly what the app and the website do and don't do.
The app
Everything Cover does to a PDF happens on your device. The redaction engine runs locally as a bundled part of the app. Your documents, and every value redacted out of them, stay on your Mac. Nothing about a document is sent over the network at any point.
Cover has no accounts and no sign-in. It does not know who you are, and neither do we. There is no in-app analytics, no usage tracking, and no crash reporting.
The one thing the app talks to the network for
Cover checks for its own updates. On a normal check it contacts download.coverredact.com to ask whether a newer version exists, and, if you choose to install it, to download that update. This is a standard app-update check: it carries no document data and no personal information about you. If you never want it to reach out, keep the Mac offline — redaction works fully offline.
The website
To download Cover you enter your email address. That email is handled by Loops, our email provider, and it is used for two things: to send you the download link, and to send a short series of getting-started tips. You can unsubscribe from any message and we will stop. We do not sell, rent, or share your email with advertisers.
The website uses privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics that count aggregate page views only. There is no cross-site tracking, no advertising pixels, and no personal profile built about you.
What we never do
- We never upload, store, or transmit your PDFs or their contents.
- We never sell your data. There is nothing to sell.
- We never run advertising networks or third-party trackers on your documents.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and move the "last updated" date. Material changes to how the app handles your data would ship with the app itself.
